Welsh Language Levels
The programmes on this site are offered on four levels:
Entry
This level is aimed at real beginners and those who have not completed a full year of once a week classes or half an Wlpan intensive course.
You can choose between Welsh language materials on the Welsh pages and English language materials on the English pages. The content and expression on the Welsh pages have been simplified and word explanations are provided by dragging the cursor over highlighted words. The English pages are generally a fuller version of the content rather than a direct translation of the Welsh pages.
Foundation
Learners will probably have completed a full year of once a week classes or half an Wlpan course. They may also have studied Welsh some time ago at school, college or on-line and want to recommence learning again without going all the way back to the beginning.
Most materials are in Welsh and word explanations are provided by dragging the cursor over highlighted words. Where the content is more complex or contain technical or specialised vocabulary, English translations are available.
Intermediate
Learners may be thinking about preparing for GCSE Welsh (Second Language) or the WJEC Welsh for Adults Intermediate examination. They will probably already have completed two years in a progressive once a week class, a full Wlpan or 100-150 hours self study.
All materials on this level are in Welsh. Explanations are available by dragging the cursor over highlighted words.
Higher
Learners will be approaching the bridge between being a learner and being a speaker. They may be thinking about A Level Welsh (Second Language), or the WJEC Welsh for Adults Higher examination. Learners may also be experienced second language students or Welsh speakers eager to gain oral and written confidence in a range of language registers.
All materials on this level are in Welsh. Explanations, where given, are available by dragging the cursor over the words highlighted in yellow.
